INTRODUCTION
Human trafficking, also referred to as trafficking in persons, is a crime that impacts the most vulnerable in our society. It involves the recruitment, transportation or harbouring of persons for the purpose of exploitation, generally for sexual exploitation or forced labour. It is a far-reaching and highly gendered crime, one which disproportionately affects women and girls. The emergence of COVID-19 has made it more difficult for those in need to access support. Human traffickers exploit human vulnerabilities created by poverty, sexism, racism, wage inequality, and a lack of education, social support, and employment opportunities. Indigenous women and girls, immigrants,Black and racialized women and those living in poverty are particularly vulnerable to being trafficked. The Governments of the participating agencies continue to make investments to end human trafficking in all its forms and to provide victims and survivors with trauma- informed supports that will help them heal and regain control over their lives.
